Tobin Rowland

“All I want my work to do is make viewers feel seen, invited into the work, and encouraged to reflect on their own experiences. I want my work to reach outward, and I feel with my practice of creating imagery in a tactile way, it creates another level of connection.”

— EXCERPT FROM INTERVIEW (09.01.2026)

Tobin Rowland is a Winnipeg-based artist working across painting and photography, often incorporating image transfer and tactile materials to build emotionally resonant surfaces.

Grounded in an ongoing desire to communicate and relate to others, Rowland’s work draws from familiar domestic objects, fleeting moments, and sentimental artifacts—tchotchkes, trinkets, and fragments of everyday life that hold personal and collective meaning. These elements are combined with photographic imagery and painterly surfaces to create works that feel both vulnerable and materially present, inviting viewers into a shared space of reflection. Influenced by community, lived experience, and the emotional charge of images, Rowland creates work that remains open and unresolved, where meaning emerges through interaction, recognition, and the quiet possibility of seeing oneself in what is seen.
