Sapphire Moon Moroz

“I see my art as an archive of what is most dear to me, similarly to how a home is full of heirlooms, photographs, and memories.”

— EXCERPT FROM INTERVIEW (02.01.2026)

Sapphire Moon Moroz is a Canadian artist based in Winnipeg. Working primarily in painting alongside sculptural interventions and archival materials, her practice explores memory, intimacy, heritage, and the politics of looking through a deeply personal lens.

Drawing from familial histories, Slavic ancestry, and domestic spaces shaped by women, Moroz treats art as a form of preservation—using portraiture, pattern, and found objects to hold moments, relationships, and identities in place. Human presence is central to her work, often appearing through self-portraiture and depictions of those closest to her, while mirrors, peepholes, and viewing devices implicate the viewer in acts of looking and trespass. Influenced by art history, museum display, and the material language of archives and heirlooms, Moroz creates works in which meaning resides in intimacy and encounter—where memory is not only represented, but activated through attention, reflection, and participation.
