Land Acknowledgement

THE WINNIPEG COLLECTION

Artist Stories by Atha acknowledges that Winnipeg is located on Treaty 1 territory, the traditional homelands of the Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene Peoples, and the homeland of the Métis Nation. While this collection features artists who are from or currently based in Winnipeg, we recognize that the city’s creative landscape exists within a much older and ongoing story shaped by the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of Indigenous Peoples.

Our call for submissions was open to artists across Treaty 1 territory, and we remain committed to creating space for a diversity of voices in future collections. We offer this acknowledgement in the spirit of respect and relationship, recognizing the enduring presence of Indigenous communities and their continued influence on the cultural life of this land.

Near the geographic centre of North America, Winnipeg is the capital of Manitoba and a key city on the Canadian Prairies. Shaped by rivers, trade routes, and movement across the continent, it continues to serve as a regional cultural and transportation hub.
