Erica Eyres
Erica Eyres is a Winnipeg-born artist based in Glasgow, Scotland, working across painting, drawing, sculpture, and moving image. Her practice weaves humour with melancholy, using the body, found objects, and fragmented imagery to explore discomfort, desire, and the tension between wanting to be seen and wanting to hide.
Though she has lived in Glasgow for many years, Eyres remains deeply shaped by memories of growing up in Winnipeg, where a particular sense of melancholy and dry humour continues to inform her work. Drawing from selective, shifting memories and everyday materials, she creates open-ended scenes that invite projection and emotional resonance. Moving fluidly between mediums, her work holds space for ambiguity, allowing tenderness, awkwardness, and quiet absurdity to coexist.
“I feel like there are often quite big patches of missing time or memories, and I almost wish I could go through memory like it was in a closet and just open it up.”
